ABOUT GEKKO
Gekko Build (was Designs) was created by Sam Chown. Moving to St Ives, Cornwall in 2007 gave the opportunity to start his own business, specialising in build and design of innovative spaces and renovation, and bespoke hand crafted furniture.
Working and living in St Ives provides new inspiration everyday through the rugged beauty of nature with the ever changing sea and wild cliffs. Our workshop is located just a mile out of St Ives in nearby Halsetown. The main aim of Gekko Build is to create something beautiful that our customers are totally satisfied with. Alongside Sam’s own exceptional standards and attention to detail, he works closely with clients to ensure that from the initial design through to the finished product, quality, sustainability and most importantly perfect functionality are achieved. All leading to that unique space or piece of furniture that is a pleasure to have in your home.
Sustainability
At Gekko Build we feel most strongly about the importance of sustainable sourcing. Using UK and European grown hardwoods wherever possible (Sycamore, Ash, Oak and Beech) and all of the ironmongery and steel used is sourced from local suppliers.
Respecting the environment is very important and we constantly aim to keep our impact to a minimum during any project we undertake. Our designs, build and quality of materials ensure that every piece is made to last for many years to come. We keep wastage to a minimum and recycle all packaging and unused materials. We are inspired by ‘up cycling’ regularly designing and making new products from leftover materials.
Furniture
Gekko Build’s passion is in creating one-off pieces of original modern furniture, using high quality sustainable materials. You will always find something quirky in each design, from bending wood to incorporating metal work. Each piece of furniture is individually designed, either by us for you, or by you our client. We hand craft both free-standing and fitted furniture.
Spaces, structures and building
Sam has over 20 years experience in building where he started his career and this still forms a large part of his work today. From bespoke interior renovations to studio builds and timber frame cabins! The ultimate importance of the project is the attention to detail to set it apart from the ordinary!
Commercial
Commercial projects include work such as retail, leisure and hospitality refurbishments and fittings, interior design and project management.
